![]() ![]() She's introducing a familiar subject: breaking up with somebody - eh, whatever. Yet, you are not really sure what is going on. One thing that I find brilliant about the track is this: the listener is denied and any real sense of root note in the beginning - despite being clearly in E major with plenty of melodic material. Had to buy the single when I got home to study how they did this. Yet when I heard it driving to work I was instantly intrigued by the high effectiveness of the sparse texture. Very modern sounding and also quirky and playful, the track communicates to many different type of people and on many different levels! For instance, though I do maintain an active interest in most every genre of music, I am not listening to much music like this recreationally. I have no problem with this track receiving that award. Do I feel that some of those songs merit "Song Of The Year?" No. Are there songs I liked more in 2009? Yes. from the writing to the production.Īgreed. Then what do you have? A pretty cool David Byrne song, right? Let's say you rewrite the lyrics to something a little less inane (ok, a LOT less inane), and have David Byrne sing it. I mean, I think it sucks too, but I'm at least intrigued by the novelty of it. The song? I think it's cool that something so beat-centric and minimalist can be such a bonafide hit. The truly great, lasting music of 2009 will succeed despite the jokers who comprise NARAS. The music recognized is not for the discerning music fan, and I'm just fine with it. The Grammy's are put on as a mainstream television event for the masses, and the nominees reflect that. ![]() You know that going into the whole thing, right? Songs with any real lasting quality don't get recognized at music awards anymore. Song of the Year to me should be about the songs, both lyrics and music.Well, come on. I really really liked and still like Crazy in Love. Its Beyonce which i've always dug from her days in Destinys Child. I want to go on record and say i have never found the song offensive.
